Currently feeling very confused at how it’s already May?! This last week was a very busy one filled with photoshoots, trips all over Paris, and many a pastry. It’s confirmed, a trip into the Boulangerie downstairs is now an expected daily occurrence.
This week the internship officially started with a solid 4 shoots! There was a range of shoots, and each was so unique and fun! We started off with a shoot for Floraison, a talented local floral designer. The entire workshop space was brimming with various florals, it was absolute heaven!
We then did a branding shoot for a photographer who was visiting Paris! We took pictures at the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, and a café for that session. It was amazing and busy getting to all the iconic spots in Paris for the shoot.
The third shoot was a fun maternity session to play with the leftover florals that Floraison gave us after her shoot. Celine has the most magical lime washed wall that we shot on, it was amazing! The same woman was our fourth photoshoot for the week! We did a second shoot with her and her growing little family.
Alex and I have loved hopping on the RER each day to ride into Paris and explore the city. It is really such a beautiful city filled with so many different things to see, do, and experience.
So far…
The best dinner spot: Pink Mamma
The most calm corner: Luxembourg Gardens
The biggest mistake made this week: ordering a massive cheese board
The yummiest place for macarons: Ladurée
One of our date nights this week was going out to the city after a shoot and roaming around. We decided to compare the Pierre Hermé macarons to the Ladurée (the top 2 competitors)… and the Ladurée was the easy winner for me! It was fun getting all the colorful little macarons and rating them according to flavor, creativity and presentation.
Walking home we saw the cutest restaurant with some people grazing on charcuterie, so we stopped, and my classic *dumb* moment this week was when I asked the waiter how to sit on terrace. For those of you wondering, you just choose a table and sit, haha. Me being American, I thought we needed to reserve or check at the front. Anywho, the waiter had a good laugh and I ended up getting us the massive board of cheese. First experience en terrace down, many more smooth experiences to go.
Unfortunately this week we had a new discovery–we can hear our sweet neighbor snoring through the walls–and because of my sensory defense disorder it caused some serious anxiety at night. I had difficultly calming down and sleeping through the night, but we’ve been able to play a sound machine (quite loudly) at night that has helped me drown out his snores and fall asleep.
Two of our great friends visited!! It’s been so fun seeing some friends who have come visiting, so if you’re coming this way anytime soon let me know! We went out and explored the major scenes of Paris, got some amazing food at Pink Mamma, chatted at the Luxembourg Gardens and soaked in the sun!
Adapting to this lifestyle has been going well. It’s strange when the only person we really talk to is truly only the boulangerie angel, and each other! Sometimes I get caught in a feeling of needing to rush and see a billion things while we’re here, but then I remember that the beauty of being here for 2 months is the luxury of getting to see Paris slower, and right alongside the locals.
There’s been so much beauty in meeting with friends, making new ones, getting our feet under ourselves, and feeling like we’re really living here!
Thank you for all the support and love you’ve been sending our way, we miss you all!
Bisous, Alexa
